Dark Waves – Tianyi Wang ‘19

Darkness enshrouds
The lazy beach town, and
New shades of mystery
Creep behind shadows.
Suddenly,
In hearts of the fearful,
The ocean becomes
Demonic.

Wrathful, it lures
the curious.
Lonely, it begs
For a companion.
A dark abyss that
Beckons to be known,
Whispering–
Come
Feel the cold seep through your
bones,
Taste the salt dissolve into your
Blood.
Face your fear
And enter me.
Laugh inside my chilled body,
Lulling ever sporadically
Toward the shore,
Bathing the sand with lingering
Foamy white, contrasted against
This dark surface,
I am good.

I mold this earth gently,
Patiently,
Reaching toward the shores
Of civilization,
Endowing humanity with
A piece of raw
Nature.
Yet no one braves against me
Under mere moonlight.
Darkness induces
Fear.

Men do not fear the dangerous,
They fear the unknown.

Obscured in shadows,
Roaring with waves,
It builds gradually
Like a predator
Slowly stalking its prey.
Its mystery is
Beauty,
Its solidarity, strength,
Under rhythmic beats,
It comes
Alive.

Dear strange beast that
Haunts
My dreams,
Please never reveal
Your secrets,
Keep me enchanted by
This spell.

If you
Dub me your faithful knight,
I will
fight with you
till the end,
Be your guiding light,
And dance
With you
Forever,
Enshrouded by
Tonight.
